Why You Should Take The Part 107 Test and Get a Remote Pilot License?

Passing the Part 107 Knowledge Test is required by the FAA in order to legally operate a drone for conducting flight missions and collecting aerial images that are used for analyzing your crops and fields. Since Part 107 regulations were enacted into law, it has become illegal to fly a drone commercially without getting a drone pilot license. Further, all drone pilots must notify air traffic control for any flights in advance if they are flying within 5 miles of the airport’s airspace (known as Class G airspace). However, if you have a drone pilot license you can legally fly in the Class G airspace without having to notify air traffic control–if you keep to a 400ft altitude limit. One of the best reasons for taking the test is that it increases your knowledge on how to fly your drone safely. This is the main reason for the requirement in the first place. If everyone operating a drone gets the remote pilot license it ensures all that are flying commercially have passed the Part 107 knowledge test. This test is challenging but its information is valuable to flying successfully and anticipating potential problems, troubleshooting for your drone, and making you aware of legal and operational restrictions.
